History
A few facts

St. Peter’s School has been a vital part of the St. Peter’s Liberty parish for many years.  As early as 1905 the school was located across the street at the present Liberty Pharmacy.  In 1924 a school was built in conjunction with a new parish church.  It was physically attached to the church and convent, and staffed by Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt; the school has educated generations of children.  In 1957, the major portion of the “new” school building was completed.  Due to declining enrollment, the school closed in 1971.  It reopened as St. Peter’s Regional School in 1977 and is currently the ONLY Catholic school in Sullivan County.  In 1978, a four-room addition was built to better serve the needs of the students.  In addition to the school property, the students use space in the CYO building and in the original classrooms of the “old school.”   St. Peter’s Regional School has an enrollment of approximately 55 for the 2009-2010 school year and encompasses a 3-year-old Nursery, a 4-year-old Pre-K, as well as traditional Kindergarten through 4th grade programs.  Our students come from six parishes and five school districts.

A certified faculty of 4 full-time lay, and 2 part-time lay teachers offer daily instruction in Religion, Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading.  Classes in Art and Physical Education are provided to all students.  Students have opportunities to share their talents in school programs, poster and essay contests.  Field trips are made within the county and state.

In October 1988 St. Peter’s Regional School received accreditation from the Middle States Association of Schools.  The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is a non-governmental, voluntary organization of education institutions, committed to excellence in all levels across the continuum of education, whose purpose is to encourage, advance, assist and sustain the quality and integrity of education in the Middle States region of the United States.  An accredited elementary school meets standards for defining appropriate educational goals and providing programs to achieve them, maintaining qualified facility, assessing and controlling the quality of educational programs, planning for the future and describing with accuracy the content of its services and programs.  An accredited school is devoted to its mission, knows itself, accepts objective evaluation, is self-correcting, student-oriented and participates in the responsibilities of the academic profession.  Accreditation is valid for ten years while the school works to achieve the goals set forth in its plan during the self-study and review process.  This accreditation is in addition to that of the state of New York and the Archdiocese of New York. We are very proud of this accomplishment.

The uniqueness of St. Peter’s Regional School is that its programs are provided in an atmosphere that puts God at the center of each day.  The liturgical year is celebrated through Mass attendance, prayer, and classroom instruction.
